When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Isaiah 43:2
God speaks through the prophet Isaiah and reminds the Israelites of his past protection, and his future protection and redemption. God is giving to the Israelites who were facing difficult times. The verse is emphasizing on the promise of God’s protection and guidance through all the trials and difficulties they may face. The imagery of water, rivers, fire is used to represent different kind of troubles and perils one may face, but God’s presence will be with them, and they will not be overwhelmed.
